CCMA “FANFEST Contest”

HEY! I’ve been chosen as the regional winner of the “Jiffy Lube Fan Fest” Contest! This is an HUGE opportunity for me to go to Edmonton and play for the Canadian Country Music Awards! BUT I need your help! (it’s really simple though) All you have to to do is go to http://www.facebook.com/ccmaofficial  between July 29- Aug 5, ‘Like’ their page and then vote in the poll (for me, Dana Beeler)! You can only vote once though! So I need you to share this with your friends & family!

I am 1 of 9 people across all of Canada who are competing for this AMAZING opportunity. This is a great chance for Nova Scotia to show the rest of Canada our awesome music Scene!

A Few Thank Yous.

hi, I wanted to sit down and write out a few thank yous to all the people in my life who’ve helped me out this past tour.

Lets start in June, I flew to Toronto to play NXNE (friggen huge.) I want to thank My Mom & Dad for getting me there. Tamara for giving me a floor to crash on. Svavar Knutur, for being one of the nicest people I’ve met in a long time, you were very sweet, I was very nervous, your kind words helped me out a lot in a very new situation for me. The entire crowd who showed up and filled the tiny bar when I got on stage (that was an amazing feeling, you have no idea!) John Isaac Watters for being just plain awesome and hanging out with Tamara and I while we drank and danced to Jim Cuddy’s sons Band. (also want to thank the Cameron House for being an amazing spot I never knew existed in real life, and PHO for being available at 4 in the morning.)

Two days later I drove to PEI for the Festival of Small Halls. Thank you so much Tanya for taking a chance on me, I truly appreciate it. Thank you to Small Halls for giving me a spot to sleep in a Hotel (so awesome, so so so Awesome!) My Aunt & Uncle for coming to both my shows (also the crowd who sold out both the halls I played at, and for accepting a non- islander as an opening act.) Colin Grant, Darren McMullen & Jason Roach, Ashlee Condon, Ten Stings & a Goat Skin all for for being hilarious and stupidly talented people. Also the Chinese place for being open late during the week, you delicious.

I then traveled to Windsor NS, to play The Full Circle Festival, I want to Thank Morgan Macdonald & the team at Full Circle who let me play again this year. You put on a beautiful festival again, I love watching the growth in a grassroots operation. There isn’t a more beautiful stage I could share my stories on.

The next day I played the Multi-Cultural Festival, Thank you to the biggest crowd I’ve played to solo. you were attentive and very kind. Thank you to all the people who stayed behind and picked up CD’s and had a chat. My cat is very happy and fed now :) Thanks again to Shelly for asking me to play, you have no idea how grateful I am for that opportunity.

The Next day, I drove to Ingonish Cape Breton, w/ Mo Kenney & Barbra Cameron for SONG CAMP!! Thank you to Sheri, Wayne, Mickey & Mary  for cooking the food and putting the camp on. This is an amazing thing you do every year and we are all so grateful. Also, Moo, Boob, Breagh, Carleton, Gordie, Dylan, Willie, Dave, Laura, & Nicole (and everyone else, theres too many of you) you guys are amazing people, and I’m so happy to have the chance to write and collaborate with you all.

A week later I started a short tour w/ Jordan Cameron. Thank you to the West Dublin Hall, The Company House, Marc’s Studio, Old Belle River Church & Jordan’s Family, for welcoming us into your lovely spaces and allowing us to share our stories and songs with you. Thanks to my (entire) Family for coming 3 out of 5 shows and filling the room (also for killing the deer flies in west dublin). Tanya for giving me a house to sleep in for 3 days, and my folks for lending me their car (for this and all the trips I take), also for giving me a spot to sleep in hubbards. Rich, Rox & Fred for coming to the show, I know there are cooler things to do, but I appreciate it.  Big thank you to PEI for having amazing food and beautiful beaches. My aunt & Uncle (again) for feeding me and coming to the shows! (also the couple in the back at marc’s who were the only people talking throughout our entire show, you taught me a great lesson in self control, Thanks for your $20.)

HUGE Thank you to my employers (all of them) for being so gracious and understanding of this crazy career I’m trying to make for myself. I owe you all so much, and someday I will repay you!

I have a sneaky suspicion no one reads this blog, but if you do and you made it this far, thank you. You are amazing.

Now on to the net leg of this circus. :)
